Justice and Peace Group

About Us

The current Justice and Peace group at St Felix Church in Haverhill was formed in September 2011, as part of the renewal of the church groups prior to the completion of our new church building in February 2012, writes Angela Wilson Co-ordinator of St Felix Justice and Peace Group. Over the past two years, we have been involved in various J & P activities, both locally and nationally, some of which I will describe in this report. At the moment we have seven members in the group and new members are always welcome.

Local Activities

Haverhill Foodbank:

We have raised awareness of the Haverhill Foodbank. We invited a speaker, Henry Wilson from the local Foodbank, to come to Mass one Sunday to give a talk about the work they are involved with.

Prison Ministry:

We have a member of the J&P group who is already involved in this work. We discussed how we could involve the wider parish community. We have also explored whether the church meeting rooms could be used for supervised access.

Links with other Justice & Peace Groups:

We have recently made contact with a local Justice and Peace group in the town called Havepeace and hope to have a joint meeting with them to discuss activities we could do together.

Fairtrade:

We hold a monthly fair-trade stall at the church which is well supported by the parishioners. The parish spends around £700 per year on fair-trade goods at this stall. Goods are on a sale-or-return basis from the Just Traid shop in Bury St Edmunds. All profits go to the shop which supports many J&P projects.

National Activities

Operation Christmas Child:

We have raised awareness of the Haverhill Foodbank. We invited a speaker, Henry Wilson from the local Foodbank, to come to Mass one Sunday to give a talk about the work they are involved with.
